This Article Earned Me Nearly $10,000 — Here’s Why
Full breakdown including how I’d do it again
I had the bright idea of sharing this on Medium. I’ve been talking about earnings on my website flipping TikTok lately. I thought, why not share in a Medium story?
I love these kind of posts because it documents my progress, incentivizes me to keep pushing and can inspire others, at the same time.
Here’s how it went down…
The anatomy behind a nearly $10K article
First, here’s the proof…
And, here’s the article:
What went down into creating this article?
Honestly, what helped was being a regular Medium reader.
I’d see trends emerge on the platform. And, it’s pretty obvious, to be honest.
One post would circulate around a specific topic and then 10 more would pop up just like it.
I wouldn’t call it copying. But, it’s definitely clearly “inspired” by an original that started on the platform.
And, that’s how this one came about.
It’s an article about how much money earned from X amount of views on a social media video.
Writers were creating content about how much 1 million TikTok views paid them, or how much 100K YouTube views paid them so, I thought, how could I contribute in a meaningful way and steal the show?
I can certainly top it with my highest-viewed video on any platform ever.
69 million views!
It garnered a ton of interest and paid me thousands month after month, for a long time.
It grew my following here on Medium by bucketloads and really inspired me to start writing more full-time here.
It led to my highest-earning month, $5,999.
And, that’s how it went down!
How would I recreate that article, today?
I wouldn’t change a thing, honestly.
I love Medium as much as ever. It’s really fun for me to peruse the platform and read stories.
And, it’s easy to uncover trends emerging.
One writer writes a story about something and it looks like it gets a positive response, based on the number of claps and comments.
Then, others follow suit.
That’s a trend.
You can piggyback off that and add your own personal, creative spin to it or more closely align to the original, to ride the wave.
How did you come across your most viral Medium article?
What was your secret and would you change anything in your process, today?
