These scams are getting more and more clever…
Do you ever get email scams?
I get these all the time. I have been getting them for a long time so they are really easy to identify but, I noticed that they are getting more clever.
This is one I got today…
Now, I’m going to share how I know this was a scam and how you can point out email scams that come to your inbox.
Let’s get into it.
How to point out and discover email scams
First, what’s an email scam.
It’s a fake email.
The purpose is to get you to provide either sensitive information over email (like passwords, social security number, etc.), pay money, or click a link that can takeover your computer and lead a ton of other issues like taking over your social media account, gaining access to your bank account, etc.
So, how do you find these?
Let’s look at one I got today…
Now, they crafted the headline of the email to be enticing so that people who receive it will be quick to click.
It looks like some kind of payment outstanding is tied to the receiver.
Either they have an incoming payment that is pending or they owe someone or organization money.
I know this is a scam because…
- The title is not recognizable: the T183-Val… doesn’t make sense to me
- The email is from DocuSign via DocuSign: so DocuSign, the company sent me this email? Not likely
- When I hover over the email, it reveals the email address
Definite scam.
Now, how do I discover these…
How to spot email scams fast
The quickest way is to hover over the sender of the email hyperlink, which will reveal the email address.
If it doesn’t make sense or it’s a weird email, it might be a scam.
