My Husband is the Spender, I’m the Saver

Here’s how we make it work

Honestly, it was such a struggle for a long time.

My husband is the spender in our relationship and I’m the saver.

This wasn’t as crystal clear as it is now until we got married.

I read a rant in a Facebook group about a wife who’s in the same predicament. Her situation was more dire though, with her husbands spending out of control and her having to take more extreme action to wheel things back in.

Here’s how I make it work in my household…

How we make our financial dynamic work

First thing, we keep separate bank accounts.

It’s always been this way.

We don’t even share a bank account for paying bills.

He has his money and I have mine.

We allot bills to each other and he pays for his portion of the household bills and I pay for mine.

He’s not terrible with money.

He can pay bills but the leftover money is just gone from spending, super fast afterward.

I will hold onto the clothes in my closet for a few years, going shopping for new wardrobe pieces maybe once or twice a year…
