I paid my husband to work for me

The good, the bad, and the ugly

It was a pain in the butt to put it bluntly.

If you’ve ever worked with family then you probably know that it’s challenging.

I was in the early years of entrepreneurship running my e-commerce store. The store was doing really really well and I needed some help.

I never hired anyone before and the whole thought of interviewing multiple people and picking a candidate to work with made me nervous so I asked my husband if he’d help me out and I could pay him.

He agreed and this relationship lasted exactly 11 days.

Here’s why it failed…

11 days working with hubby in my business

The first problem was, he didn’t recognize that I was boss.

I am the boss but I’m not bossy.

When I work with colleagues and freelancers I’ve hired, I like to think that I don’t talk down to my staff and I operate in a collaborative environment with an open door policy.

Because he had a tough time with me being boss, he took it upon himself to make decisions that he thought were best without talking to me about it.
